ESCAPE TO THE TROPICS!

Coastal Kids is based in beautiful North Queensland. No more freezing winter mornings! Townsville is  warm and sunny year round, swap your jumpers for your sunnies and take in the stunning surrounds on your daily (very short) commute.

Coastal Kids supports children and their families to meet their communication goals and participate in life to the fullest. We deliver high-quality, family centered therapy across a range of settings including clinic based, home visits, and visits to school/childcare. We love that we are such an actively part of the community and creating impactful partnerships and teams around our young clients.

We support children with a range of disabilities and disorders, including strong focus on literacy and written language difficulties. Together with their families, educators and associated team members we help our clients not only achieve their communication goals, but live their best interactive lives.

Internal Mentoring and Professional Development

You will never be short of support when you join Coastal Kids. Internally, we provide weekly supervision/mentoring meetings, fortnightly whole staff meetings, and regular team training days.  There is also a generous budget for external PD as well as paid PD days. We do this because we want to be an important part in the development of your career, so that you stay up to date on the latest therapy developments.

Each team member participates in appraisals and is helped to create there own Individual Learning Plan to help identify their needs and focus their learning in a way that fits their personal career goals.

Culture

At Coastal Kids, we value collaboration and team work – supporting each other to do the best we can for our clients. Honesty and integrity are at the centre of all that we do, as we work together to provide efficient, evidence-based  services to our community. We organise team training and well being days, as well as social events so we can get to know team members on a personal level.

We value work-life balance and will work with you to create a work schedule that fits your lifestyle.

Allied Health Assistant

Coastal Kids also employs student speech pathologists to provide alternative service delivery models for families. Under this model, clients are assessed by a qualified SLP and a support plan is created. The AHA (with support from the SLP and wider team) will provide direct intervention to the clients and their families. Families participating in this program are carefully selected to ensure that quality services can be provided.

Our model helps students to develop their clinical skills in key areas:

  • delivering evidence-based intervention, particularly in the areas of language delay, speech sound disorders and literacy
  • communicating with families
  • engaging with children
  • developing knowledge of practise management software and operating within the NDIS space.

Our model also helps our community and families by making speech pathology services more accessible, both in terms of service availability and financial costs. With long waitlists and costs of services rising, an Allied Health Assistant model enables more children to get the early intervention that they need to be able to participate in their community.

Coastal Kids provides ongoing training and support, and access to paid professional development that will assist with your role (for example Sounds-Write training). We will work with you to develop a schedule that fits in with your studies and allow time for clinical placements.

If interested, please send through a cover letter and resume to melanie@coastalkidsspeech.com.au
